This article explains how to automatically populate package weight from a USB scale into the Cahoot label creation screen using TalTech's HID-ScaleWedge software. This eliminates manual weight entry and reduces shipping errors.

Important: This setup requires a Windows PC with a USB-compatible scale. The HID-ScaleWedge software must be installed and running on the computer where you create Cahoot shipping labels.

Step 1: Download and Install HID-ScaleWedge Software

1Download the HID-ScaleWedge software from the TalTech website: https://www.taltech.com/hid-scalewedge/

2Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Step 2: Connect Your USB Scale and Launch HID-ScaleWedge

1Connect your USB scale to your Windows PC before launching the software.

2Open the HID-ScaleWedge application from your Start menu or desktop shortcut.

3The application will automatically detect connected USB scales. Select your scale from the list of available devices.

Step 3: Configure HID-ScaleWedge Settings

1Click the Settings button in the HID-ScaleWedge application.

2Configure the following settings exactly as shown:

  • Check the box: "Send Weight as Keystroke When Hotkey Pressed"
  • Hotkey: Set to F9
  • Weight Format Expression: Select 0.00
  • Weight Units: Select Pounds
  • Uncheck the box: "Include Units with weight Value"

3Click OK to apply the settings.

Critical: The weight format must be set to 0.00 and units must be set to Pounds for proper integration with Cahoot. The "Include Units with weight Value" option must be unchecked.

Step 4: Use the Scale to Populate Weight in Cahoot

1Open the Cahoot label creation page in your web browser.

2Click your cursor into the Package Weight (lbs) field.

3Place your package on the connected USB scale.

4Press the F9 key on your keyboard. The weight from the scale will automatically populate into the weight field.

Troubleshooting Tips

If the weight doesn't populate when you press F9:

  • Verify that the HID-ScaleWedge application is running (check your system tray)
  • Confirm your cursor is clicked into the Package Weight (lbs) field in Cahoot
  • Check that your scale is connected and powered on
  • Ensure the correct scale is selected in the HID-ScaleWedge application
  • Verify all settings match the configuration shown in Step 3

If the weight format is incorrect:

  • Double-check that Weight Format Expression is set to 0.00
  • Confirm that Weight Units is set to Pounds
  • Verify that "Include Units with weight Value" is unchecked
Note: The HID-ScaleWedge application must remain running in the background while you create labels. You can minimize it to your system tray for convenience.
