Hazardous Materials and Restricted Products
Cahoot strictly follows Federal Regulations on hazardous materials transportation. You can find detailed information on the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) website. Section 177.1 of Title 49 identifies the applicability of Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR). If your product is classified as a hazardous product, please follow these instructions carefully.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Notify the Accounts team at accounts@cahoot.ai if you intend to ship hazardous materials via Cahoot.
Without your prior explicit approval, Cahoot will reject any unapproved hazardous materials sent to Cahoot. Unapproved items will be disposed or shipped back to you at your own expense.
2. Ensure all HAZMAT SKUs are configured properly.
Hazardous material SKUs need to have all relevant configuration completed and approved prior to Inbounds being Approved.
Create Your Products making sure to select the appropriate HAZMAT classification on the More Details tab:
- Dangerous Goods
- Biological Material
- Lithium Batteries
Lithium Batteries are further divided based on their UN number. Make sure to select the correct classification to prevent delivery issues as well as carrier and or Cahoot non-compliance fees.
UN3090 |
Lithium metal batteries, without equipment. |
UN3091 |
Lithium metal batteries, non rechargeable, contained in equipment. |
UN3091 |
Lithium metal batteries, non rechargeable, packed with equipment. |
UN3480 |
Lithium ion batteries, rechargeable, without equipment. |
UN3481 |
Lithium ion batteries, rechargeable, contained in equipment. |
UN3481 |
Lithium ion batteries, rechargeable, packed with equipment. |
3. HAZMAT SKUs need to be properly packaged
All hazmat SKUs need to be fully covered and contained within either the Original Manufacturer's packaging or other hard (not soft) packaging, to be safely overboxed. They must also ship in packaging with sufficient surface area to affix all the required HAZMAT stickers (see below) and shipping label without overlapping any of them.
