Splitting Orders Into Multiple Shipments
Learn how to split orders into separate trackable shipments when you need to send items in multiple packages.
Common Reasons to Split Orders
- Large shipments that need multiple boxes
- Some items are out of stock while others are available
- Multiple units that ship in original manufacturer packaging (Cahoot will split these automatically if enabled)
- B2B orders shipping in case quantities
How to Split an Order
1Navigate to the order you want to split on the Print and Ship My Orders page or Sales Order detail page.
2Click the Actions dropdown and select Split Order.
3Enter the New Order Quantity for each SKU that you want to move into a new Child Order.
Multi-Location Items: If items are available at multiple locations, use the Select Location dropdown to assign the Child Order to a specific warehouse.
Locations that are out of stock will appear greyed out.
4Click Split Order to create the Child Order.
5Return to the Parent Order and repeat steps 2-4 until you've created all needed Child Orders.
6Create shipping labels for each Parent and Child Order either:
- Manually from each order page, or
- By adding them to the Auto-Label Queue (requires MLMQ Automation configuration)
Understanding Parent and Child Orders
Order Linking: Parent and Child Orders automatically link to each other for easy navigation. Child Orders receive a suffix like "-1", "-2", etc. appended to the original Sales Channel Order ID.
Merging Orders: You can merge Child Orders back into the Parent Order at any time using the Merge Order option in the Actions dropdown.
