Inbound Shipment Methods

When submitting an inbound, choosing the correct shipment method and entering the correct packing information is crucial. This article outlines the various shipment methods available for sending inventory to Cahoot.

  • Small Parcel Delivery (SPD)
  • Less than Truck Load (LTL)
  • Full Truck Load (FTL)
  • Container

Note: By default, all inbounds ship using Cahoot Partnered Carriers. Notify Cahoot in the conversations panel if your inventory is shipping overseas directly from your supplier.

Inbound Shipment Methods

Understanding the different Shipment Methods:

Small Parcel (Shipping in boxes)

Parcel refers to the shipment of individual packages that weigh less than 70 pounds that are sent through a shipping carrier like (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.). Learn how to create small parcel shipping labels once your Cahoot inbound is approved.

LTL: Less-than-Truck Load (Shipping less than 8 pallets)

Shipments that require no more than 11 feet of trailer space and usually share space on a truck with other cargo, often resulting in multiple stops and longer delivery times. Typically for shipments between 1-8 pallets that weigh anywhere between 150 to 5,000 pounds. The main benefit of the LTL shipment method is you only pay for the space on the truck that you need. Learn how to Schedule LTL Freight once your Cahoot inbound is approved.

FTL: Full Truck Load (Shipping more than 8+ pallets)

Larger shipments that fill an entire truck, providing faster delivery and dedicated space for one customer. Typically for shipments with more than 8 pallets that commonly weigh 5,000 pounds to 45,000 pounds and up. This method of shipment is quicker due to fewer stops, but as a result, it generally costs more than LTL.

Container (For Ocean Freight)

Containers are used for ocean shipping and they come in two primary configurations: floor loaded and palletized, available in 20-foot and 40-foot sizes. The standard container capacity is six pallets in a 20-foot container and 12 pallets in a 40-foot container.

  • Floor Loaded Container:

A method of loading a container where cargo is directly placed on the container floor without using pallets.

  • Palletized Container:

A method of loading a container where the goods inside are loaded onto pallets before being placed in the container, meaning the cargo is stacked and secured on flat, wooden pallets designed to facilitate easy handling and transportation using forklifts or pallet jacks.

Entering Packing Information for Inbounds

Ensure packing information is added to your Cahoot Inbound to prevent delays in the approval process. Packing Information should be entered according to the Shipment Method chosen.

Shipping documents (Shipping Labels or BOL) can be created after the packing information is confirmed and your inbound is approved.

1.
First select the shipping method under the "How would you like to ship" drop down.

2. Next, click the Add Box/Pallet button to add the Packing Information.

3. Select Box or Pallet depending on the shipment method and enter the dimensions and weights accordingly. The Packing Information will be used to generate Shipping Labels or Bill of Lading (BOL) for the freight pickup.
