Handling Damaged Items During Fulfillment Operations
When damaged items are discovered during normal fulfillment operations, immediate action is required to maintain accurate inventory records and ensure customer satisfaction. This guide outlines the steps to properly document, report, and handle damaged items found during picking, packing, or general warehouse operations.
Note: These steps apply only to items found damaged during normal operations. For items damaged during inbound receiving, follow the steps on how to Handle Damaged SKUs when Receiving Inbounds.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Take Photos of the damaged unit(s)
2. Assign Bin Location: Place damaged items in a separate bin location so they are not co-mingled with good inventory.
3. Notify Cahoot: Submit a Support Ticket and include the following:
- Item details (SKU & Barcode)
- Photos of the damages
- New bin location of damaged items
- Quantity of damaged units
- Assessment of damage (severity - can item be repackaged for sale?)
4. Await Instructions: Wait for Cahoot's response before taking further action
Important: Do not attempt to ship or dispose of damaged items until receiving explicit instructions from Cahoot Support.
